Here in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, there are plenty of reasons to be on edge. Stressful times aren’t limited to pandemics. There is one thing everyone can do to stay healthy during stressful circumstances – engage in physical activity and follow chiropractic practices.

County Line Chiropractic also wants to remind you that chiropractic should be an essential part of your wellness. With the help of chiropractic care, your brain and body are clear of interference, allowing your body to function at its optimum.

The importance of staying active during stressful times is significant and should not be overlooked. Staying active can reduce stress, enhance your mood, and sharpen your focus while also improving your sleep. It can also provide additional benefits like reducing your risk of chronic disease.

Activities For Adults During Quarantine

During this time, when families are sheltering in place, adding activities to stay healthy is important for both children and adults. Adults need a variety of activities. Experts recommend a minimum of 150 minutes of aerobic activity (moderate intensity) along with two days of muscle strengthening activity per week. The key is sitting less, though you may be working from home, and moving more, with stretching and walking breaks throughout the day. Some ideas for activities to keep you moving include biking, swimming, walking, basketball, dancing, playing outdoors with the kids, as well as weight-training, gardening, and other activities which get your blood flowing and muscles working.

Helping Kids Stay Active During COVID-19 Pandemic

Family Stretching Quarantine

With the kids home from school, as everyone follows stay at home orders, most parents are looking for ways to get kids moving, and off their devices. Experts, as they do for adults, recommend that children (ages 6 to 17) get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Younger kids need to stay active as well. For all children, physical activity supports healthy growth and development.

With the family all home together, there are lots of things you can do to get everyone up and moving. Think about teaching them your favorite games from childhood like Red Light Green Light, Kick-the-Can, or Flashlight Tag. Plan a family dance party or go for a hike. Take a bike ride together or create a backyard obstacle course and challenge one another to compete for the fastest time through. You might even want to create your own physical fitness test for the whole family to complete. The choices are endless, but with every activity, you make memories and improve your health.

Stay Safe and Active Outside During Social Distancing

Localities have different guidelines, so be sure to check before you head out to public places for your daily activity. Throughout South Florida, you can go for a walk, run, or bike ride in your neighborhood, but you’ll want to practice social distancing, as well as good hygiene (wash your hands) when you return home. If you choose to go to the park or other public area, be sure they are open first, and then check for crowds, after all you’ll still want to practice social distancing. Most playgrounds are closed for now, but many parks remain open for those who want to exercise. Remember, you should limit your activities to include members of your household, and if you are feeling sick, you should stay home. If you do choose to meet a friend for walking, running, or biking, you’ll want to keep six feet apart and avoid physical contact.

Keep in mind that there are lots of free resources available to help you and your family stay active. From YouTube to Facebook, lots of fitness experts are offering free classes during the pandemic, and local organizations like parks and recreation centers are joining in with live streaming and on-demand options to help everyone stay active and healthy.
