Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is pressure on the median nerve — the nerve in the wrist that supplies feeling and movement to parts of the hand. When the area around the median nerve, also known as the carpal tunnel, is too tight, it can lead to numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle damage in the hand and fingers.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is more common in women, and those with smaller than normal carpal tunnels often experience more symptoms. Though evidence is unclear, some think it is caused by repeated motions of the hands and fingers such as frequent typing at the computer. If you’re experiencing numbness or tingling in your hands or wrist, one of our doctors can assist in relieving the pressure on your median nerve to help minimize these symptoms.

Diagnosing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Signs and symptoms

The main symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome are a tingling or numbness in the palm of your hand and thumb, or index and middle fingers. It may seem like your fingers have “fallen asleep” and become numb at night, and over time you may even notice a numbness and tingling in your hands that run all the way to your shoulder. Your grip may be weak and you may suffer from muscle cramping.

If you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and don’t get it treated, symptoms can last a long time and sometimes worsen over time. If you’re feeling a numbness or tingling in your hands or forearms, call County Line Chiropractic Center and one of our doctors can help get you the relief you need.

  • Numbness in fingers and hands
  • Weakened grip
  • Muscle cramping in hands or forearm
  • Tingling sensation from fingers through to forearms and even shoulder
  • Slower nerve impulses

How we help

  • Diagnose your cause of pain

During your first consultation, you and your doctor will discuss your symptoms and he’ll perform a hand and wrist examination where he may ask you to flex or tap your fingers and wrist to determine the severity of your Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. A digital X-ray scan may be needed to determine the best course of treatment.

  • Customize a treatment plan

Once your injuries are diagnosed, your doctor will perform a non-invasive chiropractic adjustment using minimal force and gentle pressure to restore feeling and strength in your fingers, hands, and wrist.

  • Monitor your recovery progress

Depending on the severity of your Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, your customized treatment plan may vary in the number of required follow-up visits and recommended additional treatments. The good news is that County Line Chiropractic may help you feel better and you’ll be on the road to enjoying a higher quality of life.
