“They explained to me everything about my accident and what they were going to do – point by point what was going on with my body, and said they would do everything they can for me to feel back to normal.”
While you may have never heard of World Spine Day before, you or a loved one has likely experienced back pain at some time or another. This year World Spine Day celebrates neck and back health on October 16. Your spine, like everyone else’s, takes a beating over the course of a lifetime but understanding how to care for your spine means better health.
Dr. Leomilka Torres of County Line Chiropractic Pembroke Pines reminds everyone of the importance of spine health, “We only have one spine, let’s take good care of it.”
Here’s what you need to know to keep your spine healthy and how you can join the World Spine Day celebration!
World Spine Day was first celebrated in 2012, after being officially launched by the World Federation of Chiropractic. The purpose of World Spine Day is to raise awareness of spine health and spinal disorders and help people around the world get actively involved in their health. Held annually on October 16, it coincides with the Bone and Joint Decade Action Week. World Spine Day is celebrated worldwide and includes healthcare professionals, patients, exercise experts, public health advocates, rehabilitation experts, and even school children.
World Spine Day is not only about education on the significance of spinal health, but also promotes good posture, physical activity, correct lifting, and proper working condition. The goal is to encourage people around the globe to take care of their spines by staying healthy. With more than one billion individuals suffering from spine pain, numerous individuals are affected. In fact, it is the number one cause of disability globally.
This year, the theme of World Spine Day is Back on Track. Given the effects and challenges from COVID-19 around the world, restrictions have resulted in reduced physical activity for many, making them more prone to spinal pain and discomfort. World Spine Day 2020 hopes to encourage people to get Back on Track, renewing their efforts to restore spinal health and overall wellbeing. Around the world people are invited to get involved through local government agencies, communities, associations, organizations and more, encouraging individuals to get Back on Track with good posture and helpful physical activity.
It all begins with exercise and good posture becoming a part of everyday life. Practicing good spinal health with exercise and posture will condition your spine and alleviate pressure as you get older. There are lots of ways to participate, including:
